I always pray about what to share before I post. This week I really felt to share something I have shared before. I tried to write something different and it just wouldn't flow so here I am writing what I feel God wants me to share.
Sometimes, it's really hard to see a visual of what hope does in our lives. What light does. When we are going through a dark, hard time, it can feel like everything is drab and dark and plain. It feels like there is no life and no end to whatever is causing the stress in our lives. It's a bit like the above shots.
Hope is the light, it's what can change everything in an instant. It's the light that can help you to keep taking one more step. Hope tells you that even though everything looks dark and gloomy - it won't always be that way.
I took the second shot in each series as a visual of hope. In both circumstances, it was a split second of light, where the sun popped out from behind the cloud but it literally changed the whole landscape. That's what hope can do in your situation.
No matter what situation you are in, I would encourage you to seek hope. When I was going through a really dark period after a health issue, I was struggling to find any hope at all. I had to make a deliberate decision to stop following social accounts that fed into my mindset. Look for accounts that lift you up, that give you hope that things can improve. Listen to podcasts that encourage you and allow your soul and spirit to breathe.
If you haven't done it already, talk to someone about what is going on with you. I tend to isolate myself when I am struggling, I think a lot of people do, as a natural coping mechanism. Ultimately it doesn't help to breathe hope or life into your situation. When you isolate and spend a lot of time thinking about your problem over and over, it tends to magnify it in your head. Trained Counsellors, Pyschologists, Pastors, wise friends can all help you to gain perspective. They can talk things through, pray and offer practical help.
Sometimes when we are in a dark space we block hope out. We can't always change our circumstances or what is going on around us. Sometimes life is just downright unfair. We just need to try to do everything that we can to not block hope out when it is offered. Remember the photos, light can make all the difference but we have to let hope in.
