It isn't a secret this year has been a challenging year for many people, our family included. We along with many others have faced long term unemployment, uncertainty with housing, severe financial stress and the resulting relational strain that all that causes.....Stay with me, I call my blog Essential Hope and this isn't currently very hopeful but I'm going somewhere.
Don't ever underestimate the value of the little things. During this time, I have prayed many desperate prayers. Many times they have been answered by a little thing that has come through the actions of another person. That person didn't know I prayed. They didn't know I was desperate. They didn't know I was struggling. To them what they did was a small thing. To me, in this time, it has been everything.
You may feel a prompt to message someone and check on them, to give them a call. You might feel a prompt buy someone a coffee. It may be a sudden urge to send a card or offer someone a days work. You may see them at the shops and suddenly decide to tell them you like the top they are wearing or their hair looks nice. Maybe you feel to buy someone some groceries, or give them a little bit of money to buy themselves a treat. Whatever small thing it is, do it. You have no idea how much difference it will make to that person.
All of those things listed have happened to me in the last few months. Every single time it has come at a time when I have most needed encouragement and a little bit of hope. I trust God with my circumstances but that doesn't mean life is always easy.
I have learned many things over the past six months, but the most important is definitely that a little thing to me is a big thing to someone else. Every single day we have a chance to impact someone else's life in a profound way, by just doing the little things.
