This week I went back to photography for inspiration for my blog. The photo that I have used is one that I took on my recent trip to Tasmania. It is from one of my favourite spots - Liffey Falls. Every single time I stand in this spot, I think the same thing "I love the view but why doesn't someone move that damn log"
Look At The Big Picture
When I looked at this shot again, I found myself having exactly the same thought about the log. Then I stopped myself and looked at it properly. There is so much beauty in this place, in this shot. Sometimes I get so distracted by the log, that I forget to appreciate everything around it. Often the log is a small part of the bigger picture and we have a tendency to make it the only thing we look at.
We do this in our lives, when things go wrong that we don't expect. I have been reading James again this week. James 1 talks about God being unchanging. V17 says that Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like the shifting shadows.
Don't Focus On The Log
When something goes wrong, particularly when it is a string of somethings, I tend to focus on the log, the things that are going wrong. I forget about the good and perfect gifts that exist in my life. In an instant, my eyes don't see all of the amazing things around the log, they don't see the incredible nature of my Father who does not change.
It's A Daily Choice
If I have learned one thing, I have learned that it has to be intentional. I have to make the effort every day to be thankful and not focus on the logs. I have to make the choice to focus on my unchanging God and look at all that is good around me.
Wherever you are in your journey. Don't let your view be ruined by the log. Look at it, acknowledge it, but realise that we have a God that is bigger than any log in your way. There is so much to see all around that the logs can't be the only things we focus on.
